It was a super exciting senior night, the energy on the field was contagious and the girls probably played one of their best games of the season. We won 5-0!! First shot was a rocket from well outside the 18 by Alex Moya. Second goal was scored by Drew Willett assisted by Evi Kimball. Third was scored right before half by Kate Shafer assisted from Gina Greenberg. Channing Curci nailed the fourth goal from a direct kick to the near post on the ground. Final goal was assisted by Kate Shafer and finished by Drew Willett. Our defense played solid and set the tone from the back with great passes on the ground. We were communicating well and moved the ball around a lot and did a good job with switching the field. We are the 3rd seed and play after the boys on Wednesday at home.

Another well fought game for the varsity girls. Final score was CR 2 WR 1. CR is a really fast team, we did a great job pressuring them and maintaining good possession throughout the game. WR’s goal was assisted by Evi Kimball and scored by Kate Shafer.

October 1, 2021, Wood River Girls Soccer took to the pitch at Minico High School for a rescheduled match due to a referee shortage. As a team and coaching staff we want to give a huge shout-out to the officials who make the time to officiate games and allow us the opportunity to compete. The Lady Wolverines played an excellent game of possession against the Lady Spartans. Coming off their loss to Canyon Ridge the girls were fired-up and motivated to raise their level of play. After several missed opportunities near the goal due to Minico's tight defense, freshman Maddie Jensen knocked in the first goal at the 30 minute mark off a well executed pass from Senior Zoe Bacca. That first goal opened up a scoring spree for the second half. Zoe Bacca scored 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. The first at the 40 minute mark off a lovely pass from Yasmin Vargas, and her second at the 43 minute mark. The Lady Wolverines maintained a high press keeping the majority of play on their offensive half resulting in several Wood River corner kicks. At the 52 minute mark Josie Gilman nodded the ball into the back of the net off a Zoe Bacca corner. In the final minutes Jasmine Santacruz ripped a powerful shot from outside the 18 that the Minico keeper was able to get in front off, but not possess. Freshman Claribele Reeves was there for the follow-up and swiftly netted the ball for the Lady Wolverines 5th and final goal of the game. The Wolverine defense run by Channing Curci, Olive Gilbert, Alex Moya and Bella Parke, combined to play a brilliantly tight game holding the Spartans to a handful of opportunities that were quickly thwarted. Freshman keeper Karley Johnston, filling in for an injured Tatum Ware, was quick off her line to send balls forward. Wood River had a lot of scoring chances and capitalized on two opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net. Goal number one was from a corner kick from Olive Gilbert and Wood River’s second goal was a solid PK from Jasmine Santacruz. Excellent defense was played by Alex Moya and Gina Greenberg. Wood River versus Twin Falls. Twin Falls 6-1. Kate Shafer scored WR‘s loan goal from an assist by Maile Dorland. Despite WR’s best efforts Twin Falls is the team to beat in our conference.

Wood River varsity girls soccer defeated Burley 4-0. The girls worked hard working on composure and solid passing. Jasmine Santacruz played aggressive and smart and set the momentum for the game. Goals were scored by Ruby Gardiner off a corner kick from Drew Willett. Josie Gilman had a break away for the second goal, the third goal was assisted by Evie Kimball and scored by Drew Willett. In the final minute Zoe Bacca dribbled through three opponents to score the final goal of the game.

Wood River battled hard in a great game against Canyon Ridge resulting in a 0-1 final score for Canyon Ridge. CR scored early in the first half and had several more opportunities but strong defense and excellent goalkeeping by Tatum Ware kept them from scoring again. It was a great opportunity to see how hard we can work and develop confidence in our passing and team play. Midfielders Evi Kimball and Jasmine SantaCruz set the team standards high with their tenacious play and looking for every opportunity to set their team up.

Wood River Varsity Girls defeated Minico 7-1. Wood Rivers' defence played smart and clean. Defenders Channing Curci and Olive Gilbert kept the pressure up by pushing their team high in the opponent's half and did a great job setting the momentum by making controlled passes to feet. Goals were scored by: Josie Gilman two, Evi Kimball two, Drew Willett one, Bel Clayton one and an own goal by Minico. Great assist by Yohenny Gomez and Zoe Bacca. Wood River plays Canyon Ridge tomorrow at home.

Tonight WR girls came out fired up and ready to redeem themselves. We focused on playing as a unit and keeping possession. We were able to play most the game in the opponent’s half and had a lot of good opportunities to score. Zoe Bacca’s well placed cross deflected off Josie Gilman’s knee and Maile Dorland came in hot to finish it and score the first goal of the game. WR scored again in the second half when Ruby Gardiner fed Zoe Bacca an easy pass through the defense. Final score was 3-0 with Olive Gilbert taking a penalty kick outside the box and Josie Gilman was there to to complete the goal.

Twin Falls came out super strong and kept their momentum throughout the whole game. We did some really good things and had a much better second half working together as team and trying to connect passes and be the first to the ball. But unfortunately Twin stayed a couple steps ahead of us and never led up. End results was 8 - nil

Wood River girls continue their winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Columbia high school. Josie Gilman started the scoring momentum scoring her first goal of the game in the middle of the second half with a break away putting her shot over the keepers head. Columbia tied things up and Josie scored again with another breakaway with just minutes left. We played a great possession game and took control of the field. The whole team was feeling the affects of the first week of school and a busy week of soccer. They had to dig deep and really work together as a team. Good efforts by all and fired up for Monday against Twin.
